Watching the sun set from the deck of a luxury catamaran off the beautiful Cape coastline is an experience not to be missed – in fact it’s an experience that you’ll want to repeat many times over. Departing from the V&A Waterfront, the vessels follow a regular route, cruising slowly along the iconic Atlantic seaboard towards Clifton beach, returning after sunset along the same route. Waterfront Charters luxury catamarans are the perfect vessels to host guests for this daily event, and with two glasses of complimentary Prosecco to toast the setting sun as well as a fully stocked bar for other refreshments, it’s the perfect deluxe mobile venue for an evening adventure, and a superb way to salute the day’s ending and the start of your nighttime fun.

Sunset Cruise under sail

The sailboats follow the wind for this cruise. They do not offer a specific destination for this reason; you will be advised before departure as to the expected direction. The typical Cape Town summer wind blows from the south-east; the boats use the motors to leave the harbour and then they sail across Table Bay towards Milnerton lighthouse, returning to the protection of Granger Bay in the lee of Table Mountain to watch the sunset, and then motor back to the Waterfront.

In the winter months with the northwester prevalent, the direction taken will be toward the Clifton Coastline, or the Robben Island Coastline, also returning to Granger Bay. The wind and sea conditions change daily so the routing and style of the trip also change to meet the conditions; the skipper and crew will give you the best possible adventure.

Sunset Cruise on a motor vessel

The Motor Vessels follow a different route to the sailing boats, as they are not dependant on the wind. They follow a regular route, cruising slowly along the iconic Atlantic seaboard towards Clifton beach, returning after sunset along the same route.

    • Vessel Availability – Our Luxury Sunset Catamaran Cruise draws upon our pool of Catamarans.
    • Possible variation of cruise due weather – For all the vessels, when the seas are running too high or the wind is unpleasantly strong, instead of heading into Table Bay the destination is the Cape Town Harbour for a Harbour Lights Cruise; a perfect alternative offering magical views of Table Mountain and the lights of Cape Town and the harbour in the evening. In extreme conditions, the skipper will take every aspect into account, and even stay dockside. Safety of our passengers is always our primary concern.
    • Departure Times – The Pre-Sunset and Sunset Champagne Cruise departure times vary according to the season. Please make sure to double check your departure time to ensure you are aboard before we sail.
    • Stay warm and protected – Even on sunny days, the temperature can drop during the return leg of our cruise. Bring a warm jacket to stay cozy. Don’t forget your hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to shield yourself from the sun’s rays.
    • Dress Comfortably – Ensure you wear comfortable shoes—high heels are not recommended for safety on board.
    • Alternative Vessel Assurance – In the unlikely event that the primary boat for this cruise is unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to utilize an alternative vessel for this experience. Be assured that Waterfront Charters will always make every possible effort to ensure that the advertised vessel is available. Some Cruises do not have a dedicated boat for the cruise and rely on a pool of available vessels at Waterfront Charters to cover fluctuations in weather, seasonal passenger numbers and planned maintenance.
